About Tatau

Our Story

Social media promised to connect us, and for a time, it did. Platforms like Facebook started as college networks for genuine connection, Twitter gave voice to movements, and Instagram celebrated creativity. These platforms were built with good intentions and changed how we communicate forever.

But somewhere along the way, the model shifted. Today's social media landscape is dominated by:

  • Attention-harvesting algorithms that learn your triggers and serve content designed to keep you scrolling—not content that enriches your life
  • Echo chambers where reading a single article can reshape your entire feed, narrowing your worldview rather than expanding it
  • Advertising saturation where genuine human moments compete with sponsored posts, turning your attention into a product sold to the highest bidder
  • Engagement metrics that reward outrage over empathy—because anger gets more clicks than kindness

The result? Platforms where the average user spends 2+ hours daily often leave feeling worse than when they started. Studies show social media use correlates with increased anxiety, depression, and loneliness—the opposite of what "social" should mean.

Tatau was born from a simple question: what if we kept the connection but changed the incentive? What if a platform measured success not by time-on-screen or ad impressions, but by the kindness it spreads into the world?

We're not here to replace your other social networks. We're here to offer something different—a daily reminder that humanity is fundamentally good, and that small acts of kindness create ripples far beyond what we can see.

Our Mission

To create a digital space where kindness ripples outward, where every interaction lifts rather than tears down, and where our shared humanity is celebrated. We believe that beneath our differences, we share universal values that connect us all.

Why 'Tatau'?

In Sanskrit, 'tatau' (तथा) means 'appropriate,' 'balanced,' or 'fitting'—reflecting harmony between the individual and their shared human identity. This captures our mission perfectly: helping people express themselves in ways that honor both their authentic voice and our common humanity. Additionally, tatau is the Polynesian word for tattoo—marks that tell stories, connect generations, and carry meaning. Like traditional tatau, the kindness shared here leaves lasting impressions that ripple through communities.

Our Inspiration

Captain Sir Tom Moore

At 99 years old, Captain Sir Tom Moore showed the world what one person can achieve through simple, determined action. By walking laps of his garden during the COVID-19 pandemic, he raised over £32 million for NHS charities—proving that kindness knows no age and that small steps can create enormous ripples of positive change.

His famous words, "Tomorrow will be a good day" capture the spirit of hope and resilience that Tatau aims to spread. Sir Tom's legacy reminds us that every act of kindness matters, and together, our collective goodwill can transform communities and touch lives around the world.
